My Experience at a Hafla: A Night to Remember

On the 15th of June, I had the pleasure of attending a Hafla that my neighbours were performing in. Now, you might be wondering, "What's a Hafla?" Well, I was curious too, so I turned to Urban Dictionary for an answer. Here’s what I found:

"Hafla," derived from the Arabic word "Khafla" (with a soft "a"), is a "get-together," party, or ceremony often involving family gatherings, clan events, or religious ceremonies. It can range from an intimate group of friends to a large celebration. Typically, at a Muslim Khafla, you won't find alcoholic drinks, but there may be other smokeable items available. The event often features belly dancing for entertainment, plenty of food, music, dancing, and hookah smoking (nargila-waterpipe).

Now, back to my experience. The Hafla was a truly enjoyable night filled with vibrant music, delicious food, and lively dancing. It was fascinating to see the rich cultural traditions and the joyful atmosphere.

I captured some amazing moments that night. Below are a few of my favourite photos. You can view the full gallery through the link provided below the images.

Hope you enjoy!
